Coffey was responsible for the project management of two new endoscopy theatres. These theatres are the first of their kind in Australia featuring blue glass walls and a range of advanced technical features not seen in Australia before.

An Australian first: blue glass wall technology in theatres

As part of the QEII Hospital upgrade, Queensland Health needed to upgrade their endoscopy theatres.

We were engaged to manage the design of this new space, and as part of an Australian first, Queensland Health accepted a proprietary solution from a German supplier which resulted in a change in the design direction part way through the process. The impact of this meant that the installation still had to meet the main contractors program and the installation had to occur within a newly built building envelope.

Robust project management and proposal negotiations

The change in design resulted in the need for a revised program to be developed and the endoscopy theatre packages to be retendered. Coffey also had to negotiate and review the proposal provided by the proprietary supplier on behalf of Queensland Health. We undertook these activities as part of our project management service.

We played a crucial role in monitoring long lead items and facilitating the delivery, offloading and installation of the new high tech endoscopy operating theatre equipment.

High profile hospital upgrade delivered to the highest standards

The QEII Hospital upgrade was already a high profile public hospital upgrade demonstrating Queensland Health’s commitment to delivering world class health care.

These two new endoscopy theatres were the first of their kind in Australia to feature the blue glass wall technology and we delivered this project to the highest standards.
