    Risk analysis register – we’ll create a register early in the design stage, in consultation with you, your stakeholders and designers. A list of all risks associated with a project will be provided together with suggested mitigation strategies to build into its design.

    Cost control – every design decision has cost implications for your project. Our project managers work with designers to understand the cost and value of different decisions. They’ll also oversee cost control and use value management strategies to help keep the design within construction budget.

    Geology and geomechanics – whatever is below ground, from soft soil to hard rock, it all presents different challenges.  Our experts will study the geology and geomorphology and undertake targeted geotechnical and geophysical investigations so you can have confidence in the distribution of soil and rock strata and their properties. We’ll interpret the results, propose appropriate solutions and suggest any necessary mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and integrity of structures.

    Foundation design – designing strong, efficient in-ground structures requires collaboration between structural and geotechnical design teams. Our geotechnical, geo environmental and structural engineers will work with your designers to ensure every structure is designed to optimise the geological conditions. Our specialist soil and rock technicians will test and assess ground conditions using our national network of laboratories – ensuring we understand the parameters your project is dealing with, so they can be built into appropriate designs.

    Environmental design implications – Our environmental experts will help you build sound environmental management into each design. We’ll also develop an Environmental Management System to support the construction phase and build environmental protection into day-to-day practices once the project is operational.

    Our engineering team focus on producing smart and efficient designs for the civil and structural aspects of your property infrastructure project.   • Construction

    Our team of project managers, environmental specialists, materials technicians, geotechnical engineers, civil and structural engineers will supervise your construction from a risk perspective. Risks are understood, managed and issues are tackled on the spot – before they escalate.

    Cost and time blow outs – our project managers will continually review and manage construction quality, so the final product meets your and your stakeholders’ expectations. This involves managing progress against the Project Master Program, catching any slippages and putting strategies in place to quickly get back on track.

    Environmental threats – managed poorly, construction can have damaging impacts on local marine environment, waterways and wetlands, wildlife communities, groundwater and public amenity. We’ll design measures that avoid the most adverse impacts, and mitigate, manage, offset or compensate for any unavoidable impacts.

    Unsafe working conditions – our safety experts will give you practical recommendations for improving worker safety. Where needed, we’ll develop techniques to anticipate and control potentially hazardous situations during construction.

    Unfavourable or unexpected ground conditions – to avoid putting your budget, timing and constructability at risk our geotechnical engineers will monitor ground conditions throughout construction, with ongoing quality compliance and quality control testing – either on site or in our NATA accredited labs. If conditions hamper construction, our on-site specialists will work with you to modify designs.

    Management of the disposal of construction material - to reduce the cost of construction material disposal, our team will advise on the potential to re-use material. We’ll also manage any necessary disposal, selecting environmentally sound disposal sites and develop management plans that consider the site’s environmental conditions and capacity.

    Instrumentation and monitoring –we’ll propose suitable instrumentation, geotechnical and environmental, and monitoring frequencies, taking into account the parameters to be measured and the performance criteria adopted. Alert levels for measurements will be incorporated during the design phase and our engineers will monitor and analyse results during construction.  We’ll provide advice where adverse behaviour is observed.

    Our engineering team has a strong focus on construction support and temporary works. Our designs create buildable solutions and our involvement through the construction phase of all projects assist in achieving a safe and compliant design.

    Slope risk assessment - Site embankments and cuttings can be at risk of landslide.  Our experienced geologists can identify high risk sites and develop remediation or slope management plans.  Using remote monitoring we provide near real time displacement and pore water pressure data to manage the ongoing risks and ensure user safety.

    Foundation serviceability and maintenance – significant load conditions and on-going ground movements degrade foundations. Our experts have extensive knowledge of foundation behaviour. They’ll assess any deterioration in foundations and help to rehabilitate the structures.

    Condition assessment is a key requirement for the long term serviceability of an asset. Our engineering team is experienced in the assessment of steel, concrete and geotechnical structures. We also provide remedial specifications and designs for damaged components.    

    Environmental monitoring and management – we’ll develop an Environmental Management System and Environmental Management Plan that will integrate into your business-as-usual operations. The plan will set out how you will manage and monitor environmental and social performance to meet the conditions of project approval. We’ll help you develop policies, systems and processes to support the plan and implement it during operation, including training, communication, monitoring, reporting and internal audit.

  • Disposal & renewal

    Across both developed and developing urban environments, there is an increasing drive to revitalise urban precincts through asset renewal strategies that return land to its original state, mitigate environmental liabilities from your balance sheet and unlock value from closed assets. Asset renewal is not only good practice in sustainability but is a way to fund both the building and revitalisation of significant urban environments.

    Our team of experts provide strategic advice, due diligence, environmental, geotechnical, geophysical and engineering investigations and analysis to inform the asset recycling options, and provide remediation and rehabilitation of the asset.

    Demolition design and management - our structural engineers can help you reduce the hazards associated with demolition, refurbishment, dismantling and decommissioning of your asset.  We can provide you with demolition planning and design, detailed pre-demolition structural building survey, structural inspection and assessment and if required revised structural demolition methodology during soft-strip, and supervision during demolition.

    Reclamation design – Property assets located near low lying areas may require reclamation as part of the asset’s renewal. We can support the in-house management of these complex and costly programs – meaning better and more cost effective outcomes. We’ll advise on material suitability and handling, and develop a progressive reclamation plan. By designing ground improvement programs for reclamation we can negate the need to import costly materials or perform unnecessary dumping.
